The Machine That Goes Ping

Part 10

Back | Index

Every time I make a a post at the moment, my laptop goes Ping, loudly.
Fortunately, I’m wearing headphones, and so npbpdy else on the bus notices
apart from those who are startled by my leaping in the air at the noise
which is, at a rough estimate, fifty billion times louder than iTunes.

As I recover, I see various fellow travellers on this outmoded means of
transport clustered around. I mumble something about a noise that made me
jump and hit my head on the ceiling (It’s 5’6”, I’m 6’), and even as I’m
doing it I can feel whatever was in my head draining away into nothingness,
or wherever dreams go.

As we roll though Shefford, I’m almost positive I see some kind of white
sheet fall from the top of the bus. It disolves in the rain behind us,
and I go back to rewriting my CV, in the hope that someone in the world
needs a folklorist.

An End.
